Chad Johnson is the Optical Microscopy Manager at the BioImaging Platform at La Trobe University. Throughout his career Chad has been heavily involved in the training, guidance and support of researchers in the field of Optical Microscopy and Image Analysis.
Chad obtained his Master of Science degree majoring in Genetics, at Massey University, New Zealand studying the effects of nuclear weapon radiation on New Zealand Naval Veterans. After graduating, he worked in the field of cytoskeleton and mitochondrial dynamics studying the fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe, before moving to Melbourne in 2008 to begin his microscopy career as part of Monash Micro Imaging at Monash University.
In 2011, Chad took a sabbatical to the United Kingdom to work at the Anatomical Pharmacology Unit (MRC) at Oxford University in the field of Parkinson’s Disease before moving back to Melbourne in 2013 to continue working as a microscopist in the Centre for Advanced Histology and Microscopy at The Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute. In 2017 he returned to Monash Micro Imaging as a staff member at the ARA campus. In 2021 He was appointed as the Manager of Optical Microscopy at the La Trobe University Bioimaging Platform.
